BONAIRE ADVENTURE 2008

Tropical Storm Omar...Oh My!!

This is my 3rd trip to Bonaire and each one has been so different and the last one takes the cake when it comes to excitement :) Each day had a new twist to it...and the biggest was Tropical Storm (soon to be a hurricane) Omar. We also had some unwanted night time visitors who took some of our gear from the porch, a fender bender or two, adjusting to "island time" with 2-3 hour dinners, and the endless mosquito bites! Now for the good news...the storm only lasted 2 days and we were able to Scuba Dive and Snorkel the rest of the week! The sun was out except for those 2 days! A fun group, lots of laughs, playing "catch phrase"...Julie was the best!! And the fish were exceptional, as usual. We enjoyed attending Church and seeing our friends Ellie and Bas again. Thanks for a wonderful trip....no, it was an ADVENTURE!!

4 WHEELING PARADISE!!

Piaute Trail, Southern Utah
My latest adventure took me back to the best ATV trail in the state. It was beautiful camping at 8500 feet and the views were amazing. We had a big group this year, 12 in all, that enjoyed the adventure. We had a couple of "injuries" to the group...Barb hurt her wrist slam-dancing with a boulder and Tinker and Dori (Tammy's dogs) tried to tango with a porcipine (sp?)!!! We had a wonderful time with our friend Di, who returned from Ohio for the trip. Thanks Di!! Thanks to Tammy for letting us use her trailer and everyone for great dinners.
Can't wait until next summer!!

Honoring Grandma Willie

My Grandma was an amazing lady! She had 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, was widowed at 65, worked hard at all that she did: running the family shoe store, sewing her grandchildren outfits, making the best chocolate pie, crafts, and needlepointing. Just to name a few. She passed away May 30, 2008. This is my family and I love them all dearly!

May Day, 2008 was Champ's Birthday! She is an amazing 12 years old and as spry as ever :) She had a good walk that day and a special trip to Pet Smart to pick out a bone..."the best day ever" was written all over her face. Suzi even brought her a pine cone rawhide back from her trip. She is a good dog and I love her!

Hiking Little Wild Horse Canyon & Ding Dang Dome!

The last weekend in March, we (Tammy, Suzi, Di, and myself) headed south about 3 hours to visit Gobblin Valley State Park. We hiked Saturday in Little Wild Horse and on Sunday in Ding & Dang Canyon to Ding Dang Dome. Both are slot canyons and they are full of obstacles that make it more adventuresome. Happy Birthday to our friend, Diane :)

Work Hard, Play Hard?

This past week, I was in Aneheim attending a Solution Tree Conference with a group of 10 teachers and administrators from my school. It was terrific weather, terrific hotel, and terrific conference...oh and Disneyland was terrific too :) There were over 2,000 educators in attendance and for the most part we stayed in one large ballroom listening to the guru's of change in education. So, we worked hard and played hard at Disneyland. Here a few pic's from the trip...oh, and it was my birthday too!

Yurting Trip #2

We had another wonderful time in the Yurts over MLKJr Weekend. There were 5 of us that braved the cold and enjoyed 3 days in the mountains. This year, I think we broke a record of number of games played: Jerk, yahtzee, spoons, killer uno, uno, chicken ("the dice game") and good idea for playing dealer choice. All in all it was a wonderful time and wow do we haul in the good food...Thanks KJ for the burrito fixings and Tammy and Di for going all out on the breakfasts :)

...a yurting we will go, a yurting we will go...

In the amazing Uinta Mountains about 1 1/2 hours east of Salt Lake City are the tent cabins they call "Yurts" There are 5 Yurts all different distances from the trailhead. On this last trip, we went to the furthest yurt over 5 miles one way! It was very very cold but equally beautiful. Twice a year or so, it is a relaxing get-a-away in the mountains with my favorite friend...Champ...and a handful of good friends. Snowshoeing in all depths of snow, wind, sun, or moonlight :) "I'm free....free falling" as we like to call it in new powder heading down the mountain.
